    The Last Ottoman Generation and Interwar Europe

    The workshop will explore the lives of eight different Ottoman subjects and their impact on Europe after the collapse of the empire. The purpose is to shed light on this significant aspect of interwar Europe’s social, economic, cultural and political life by seeking out and investigating the lasting presence of Ottoman identities and networks in Europe. This is a blind-spot in historiography of interwar Europe.  The workshop is co-hosted by CEMES and The Many Roads to Modernity, with cross-institutional collaboration between ToRS and SAXO, and builds logically on a prior workshop on transnational biographies (08.05.2018) and an Author Meets Critics with Michael Provence (15.06.2018). » Read more
